New Registration Form

Challenge

For a company to open an account at ABC Brasil Bank, it must complete a digital form with the following information:

  • Contact details
  • Company information
  • Documents (contract or articles of incorporation)
  • Indication of representatives, shareholders, and guarantors, and who signs on behalf of the company
  • Information about the business outlook and FATCA/CRS

The information regarding “Business Outlook” and “FATCA/CRS” posed a significant challenge. As they are regulatory, they contain many jargons and legal terms. Additionally, some questions were too direct and lacked context, causing confusion and delays in completion.

Solution

We improved the experience and introduced a new design for the form. Regarding the text, these were the key improvements:

Questions with More Context

Some questions presented technical terms with little context for users.

In the first image:
“Non-resident investor?”

I crafted more comprehensive questions, providing users with the necessary information to respond.

In the second image:
“Is the entity a non-resident investor (e.g., has headquarters, domicile, or residence abroad and intends to invest in Brazil)?”

Use of plain language techniques

In the old form (first image):

  • The texts were continuous;
  • There was no hierarchy of information;
  • The sentences were long and in an indirect order

In the new form (second image):

  • The texts have short sentences in a direct order for readability;
  • There is a hierarchy of information;
  • Bullets visually organize the form;
  • Information is easy to find and scan.

Explanation for jargon and legal terms

During the flow, I added explanatory texts written in plain language.

In the old form (first image), there was no explanation for the term “mercado primário” (primary market):
Description: “In the primary market, the transmission of orders can only be in written form.”

In the new form (second image):
Title: “Primary Market”
Description: “It is where a company’s new securities are:

  • Traded directly between the company and investors
  • The funds are allocated to investment projects or to the company’s cash.”

Benefits

  • Autonomy: explanations of legal jargon and terms just a few clicks away without needing assistance from an ABC Brasil Bank professional.
  • Reduction in form completion time: individuals can clarify doubts without leaving the registration form flow.
